Fred. Olsen Express is the chosen shipping company for over a million people each summer for their journeys between islands. In this campaign, which runs from June 21st to September 23rd, the shipping company carries out over 6,000 trips transporting 300,000 vehicles.

The flexibility and convenience of travelling by boat, with no luggage limits and the ability to bring your own vehicle, accessibility, and options such as being able to travel with your pets, are the reasons that lead Canarians to choose maritime transport to enjoy their holidays.

Fred. Olsen Express, which will celebrate 50 years of connecting the islands next July, has become the preferred option for those who opt for sea connectivity, through its eight lines: a coastal one for La Gomera, the one that connects the Canary Islands with Huelva, and the rest of its inter-island routes. The company offers a service distinguished by its punctuality, comfort, commitment to sustainability, and its ships.

In the words of Fred. Olsen Express’s fleet director, Juan Ignacio Liaño, “summer is a very important time for us, as it has been for the past 50 years. During this period, we highlight our commitment to flexibility and maritime inter-island connectivity by reinforcing almost all our routes to meet the needs of those who make travel part of their holiday concept. These are months in which, regardless of the high demand, we continue to guarantee maritime transfers of passengers and cargo through our sea highway.”

Users’ favourite routes

Among the most demanded routes during this period are the one connecting Tenerife with Gran Canaria, the one linking this island with Fuerteventura, as well as the route with which the shipping company started its activity in July 1974, connecting La Gomera with Tenerife.

At this time of year, to meet the demand for sea connectivity with the mainland, Fred. Olsen Express increases the frequency of its route between the Canary Islands and Huelva, from July 1st to September 30th. A route operated alongside Baleària with two ships: the Sicilia, with a capacity for 1,000 passengers and 400 vehicles, and the ferry Marie Curie, which can transport over 800 passengers and 600 vehicles.

Those interested in planning their summer holidays and getaways can already purchase their tickets through Fred. Olsen Express’s usual sales channels, on their website, app, travel agencies, the company’s call centre, and also at sales offices located in various ports.

About Fred. Olsen Express

Fred. Olsen Express marks 50 years connecting the Canary Islands by sea. The shipping company began its journey in 1974 with the first Gomera Ferry between San Sebastián de La Gomera and Los Cristianos in Tenerife. Since then, they have maintained their commitment to the development of maritime transport in the archipelago, offering a service provided by state-of-the-art ships based on comfort, speed, and flexibility.

True to their mission of generating wealth among the Canarian community, the shipping company has a team of nearly 1,000 employees. Currently, they operate through five maritime lines. Since 2018, they also connect the archipelago with the Iberian Peninsula by linking Gran Canaria and Tenerife with Huelva.

Fred. Olsen Express is a market leader in inter-island transport. They carry out an average of 22,000 trips per year, transporting annually over 3.5 million people, more than 63,000 pets, around a million cars, and approximately 1,300,000 linear meters of cargo, equivalent to about 100,000 freight vehicles. Since their inception, over 85 million passengers have trusted the company.

In line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Canary Islands Sustainable Development Agenda 2030, through their ‘Harmony with the Sea’ programme, Fred. Olsen Express applies innovation in all its processes to minimize its impact on the environment.
