SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 24th June (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Fantastic Film Festival Ciudad de La Laguna Calavera Island in the Canary Islands, scheduled from 8th to 17th November, unveiled the poster for the eighth edition of this cinematic gathering. “With each edition, the persona of Skull Island manifests in different forms in the visuals. In 2024, a Kaiju emerges in a clear homage to the celebrated character, Godzilla,” explained Daniel Fumero, co-director of the Skull Island Festival, at the helm of the Limbo Kids design studio.
The visual identity and other new elements of the upcoming event were unveiled for the first time to the audience at the initial Calavera Island pre-festival function of the year, held at Multicines Tenerife during the screening of ‘Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom’.
In light of the 70th anniversary of the first Godzilla film directed by Ishiro Honda, known in Spain as ‘Japan under the terror of the monster’, Skull Island will dedicate a portion of its programme to this fantastical universe.
Consequently, on Sunday, 17th November, the festival will culminate with ‘Godzilla Day’ featuring a marathon of films centred around the legendary creature of radioactive origin. Additionally, there will be exhibitions, discussions, and book presentations on the titan.
Conversely, on Thursday, 31st October, the eagerly awaited preliminary event returns: the Calavera Island Tenerife Zombie Walk Ciudad de La Laguna, an entertaining participatory parade of ‘undead’, designed for all age groups, which will traverse the historic centre of the World Heritage city on Halloween night. Free makeup stations, culinary zones, music, entertainment, and other surprises will be part of the offering at the fifth instalment of this ‘Zombie march’, inspired by iconic characters from film, TV, comics and fantasy literature.
Organised by the Cultural Association Charlas de Cine, the Isla Calavera Cultural Association, Multicines Tenerife, and the specialised publication TumbaAbierta.com, the Fantastic Film Festival Ciudad de La Laguna Calavera Island was established in 2017 and has garnered significant global recognition over its seven-year history.
Internationally, it has become a prominent fixture, welcoming notable figures such as John Landis, Joe Dante, Sam J. Jones, Deborah Nadoolman, Sarah Douglas, Rick Baker, Caroline Munro, David Naughton, Enzo G. Castellari, Mick Garris, Neil Marshall, Charlotte Kirk, Nicholas Rowe, Colin Arthur, Jack Taylor, and Hollywood star Amber Heard and Eduardo Noriega, who presented their film ‘In the Fire’ at its national premiere on Calavera Island .
Other guests who have graced Tenerife during the Canary Islands Fantastic Film Festival and elevated the event on the cinematic map include Belén Rueda, Álex de la Iglesia, Manuela Velasco, F. Javier Gutiérrez, Víctor Clavijo, Silvia Tortosa, Paco Plaza, Carolina Bang, Paco Cabezas, Víctor Matellano, Juanma Bajo Ulloa, Eugenio Mira, or Lola Dueñas, among others.
