Just like love, dancing knows no age. This was demonstrated at the fourth edition of the Tenerife Weekend Urban Dance, held this past weekend at the Santiago Martin Pavilion in the municipality of La Laguna. The event was attended by 3,000 people, once again selling out all tickets. In this urban dance championship in Tenerife, which has already become the “best event” of this dance style in Canaries, children and parents shared nerves, excitement, and the magic of dance on stage and in different categories. With no age limit, this competition made it clear that children and adults can share the same dream and enjoy dancing. Grey hairs are no longer a hindrance to giving their all on stage dancing Hip Hop, or at least trying, among other urban styles.

At the TF Weekend Urban Dance, organized by Be Rock Marketing and with the collaboration of the City Council of La Laguna, the Cabildo, and the Canary Government, prizes are distributed among different categories: Baby, Children, Junior, Youth, Absolute, Megacrew, and Premium. In this last category, the parents of students from different participating schools, as well as family members of children and other adults eager to have fun, participate. Throughout a school year, from September to June, children and adults prepare their choreographies, sharing rehearsals and excitement for dance.

For example, at the dance school En Paralelo, located in the municipalities of Candelaria and La Laguna, one of the most awarded academies during the fourth edition of the TF Weekend, it all started as a challenge for the parents, encouraged by their children and the teachers, Aída, Claudia, Patricia, Candela, and Astrid, who oversee almost a dozen competition groups. They create each of the choreographies and include rehearsals on their long workdays, including Saturdays and even some Sundays.

As it turns out, they are dancing Hip Hop, like the children, among other urban styles, something none of the parents, family members, and novice dancers had tried before. With ages ranging from 35 to almost 60 years, dance classes, performances, and competitions have become a sanctuary of jokes and fun moments for these adults, but also of effort, discipline, commitment, and sweat. They claim that this experience has also brought them closer to their children, asking them for advice and rehearsing with them, even at home.

Therefore, the numerous audience at the Tenerife Weekend enjoyed last weekend numerous choreographies performed by dancers of all ages. For more than eight hours, nerves, tears, laughter, hugs, and dreams come true also danced on the stage of the sports venue known as The Burger.

In the Baby category, the groups Le Move Baby, Kos, and En Paralelo took home the awards; in Children, LS Tribe, Cassiopeia, and Spotless; in Junior, LS Tribe, Blitz, and En Paralelo; in Youth, Yugen, Opia, and The Goonies; in Absolute, Now/Now, En Paralelo, and LS Tribe; in Premium, Origin, Wolves, and En Paralelo; and in Megacrew, En Paralelo, Dancing with Class, and Nameless Crew. In addition to the medal, cup, and cash prize, the winners of this last category, the boys and girls from En Paralelo, are also invited to dance at a match of Basketball Club La Laguna Tenerife.

The jury of this edition of TF Weekend was made up of internationally renowned dancers and choreographers Alisa Tsitseronova, Joseph Tsosh, Jordy Sparidaens, and Borja Muñoz. These acclaimed artists, along with other teachers, also conducted personalized workshops during the weekend at the Alberto Delgado Pavilion (La Laguna).
