SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 22nd June (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Tourism sector of the Canary Islands is marking LGTBI Pride Day with a social media campaign highlighting that in the archipelago, there isn’t just acceptance and diversity throughout the year, but also an array of accommodation and entertainment options for these visitors to enjoy 365 days a year, thanks to the pleasant climate.
Focused on exciting and captivating the target audience to consider the islands for their next summer getaway, the Department of Tourism and Employment of the Government of the Canary Islands, via Tourism of the Canary Islands, has launched a social media campaign in Spain, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Italy.
This audiovisual piece, funded with Next Generation EU funds, directs users to a section tailored specifically for this tourist segment on the destination’s official website, www.holaislascanarias.com/turismo-LGTBI. This section within the brand’s digital platform provides valuable information and inspiring content based on the interests and motivations of this type of tourist.
This particular segment is of significant importance to the Canary Islands brand as they not only spend four times more than the average tourist at the destination, but also distribute their expenditure more effectively.
Through this initiative, Turismo de Canarias aims to achieve various objectives, including solidifying the archipelago’s position as a premier LGTBI-friendly destination and reinforcing its image as an inclusive, tolerant, and secure haven for this community. Additionally, the goal is to boost expenditure at the destination by attracting this more lucrative type of tourist.
By 2023, approximately 650,000 LGTBI visitors are expected to visit the archipelago, generating a turnover of 1.2 billion euros. These tourists select the Canary Islands because they seek to unwind in a coastal setting, favourable weather, freedom, and tolerance, while also opting for destinations with a wide array of LGTBI-friendly offerings such as accommodation, nightlife, and events.
