SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 21 June (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo of Tenerife, through the Education and Employment sector, has marked the graduation of a total of 51 students who have successfully completed the Dual Baccalaureate programme in the United States and Canada.
The ceremony took place on Thursday at the assembly hall of the TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes and was graced by the presence of the Minister of Education and Employment, Efraín Medina.
In a statement, Medina highlighted that out of the 51 students, five have accomplished the Canadian baccalaureate while 46 have achieved the North American baccalaureate.
Both programmes require the completion of a series of online credits (ranging from 4 to 6 credits, some of which combine subjects), a four-week immersive experience in Ohio-Northern Kentucky or Toronto, fulfilling volunteer hours, and a final exam.
These initiatives are part of the language immersion project carried out by the Education and Youth Service that commenced in the academic year 2014.
Presently, the programme includes the Linguistic Immersion Scholarships and the Dual Baccalaureate of the 2024-25-26 edition, alongside other supplementary schemes.
This cohort represents the inaugural group of the Dual Baccalaureate programme, where students have concurrently pursued the Spanish Baccalaureate along with the American or Canadian Baccalaureate.
In the upcoming edition, 100 chosen students will journey to Canada (50) and the United States (50) with the intention of fulfilling the necessary in-person credits to obtain their Bachelor’s degree in those countries.
The programme aims to enhance the English and French language proficiency of students in Tenerife during their 4th year of ESO and Baccalaureate, providing them with an independent international educational experience and vocational guidance, and enabling them to acquire international educational credentials via the Canadian and American dual baccalaureate, which enhances their competitiveness and eases their entry into European, Canadian, and American universities.
