The organization of the event is the responsibility of the Andragan Celtics Association. “Through the Irish emigrants who reside in all parts of the world, it is intended to disseminate this art and we believe that the Islands are an ideal place for this initiative, taking advantage of the similarities between the Irish cane and the canary stick”, he assures Santiago Bacallado, member of Andragan Celtics and one of the promoters of this event.
Like the canary club, «in the Irish club there is also a non-aggression pact between the players, who fight, but do not hurt or hit each other in the body, only in the clubs, which shows the nobility of this art ”, affirms Bacallado. ‘The aims of the association also cover most of Ireland’s traditional cultural and sporting events. On this occasion, the twinning of pole fencing of two islands in the North Atlantic is being carried out, ”explains Santiago Bacallado.
The Andragan Celtics representative in the Islands highlights that it is a twinning between the Canary Islands and Ireland because, “although it is unknown, there is an important relationship between our archipelago and the Irish people, especially after the conquest of the Islands.”
Between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. a masterclass of the Canarian and Irish stick will be held at the sports complex, open to anyone who wants to get closer and learn about this ancestral tradition shared between Ireland and the Canary Islands.
