The island government and the PP refuse to include Fonsalía in the special protection zone

Ruth Acosta, counselor of the political formation that provides external support to the Government, criticized the arguments of PSOE and Cs against the initiative, among which they alluded to the need to wait for the conclusions that the studies on alternatives to the dock project throw de Fonsalía to solve the problem of maritime connectivity with the Green Islands.

«It is incredible and outrageous to see how the Cabildo does not support this protection due to the risk it may pose to the Fonsalía project, despite the fact that the opposition to this infrastructure is a popular outcry, being a mistake from the social and political point of view , economic and environmental ”, reflects Acosta.

The counselor Ruth Acosta describes as “worrying” the “servitude” of PSOE and Cs to Fepeco

From their perspective, “the easement” shown by the government group to the construction employers “is worrying, since it seems that the only possibility they contemplate is to continue building and deteriorating our territory, breaking with the commitment adopted in the Declaration of Climate Emergency decreed in 2019 by this same government group and distancing ourselves from the sustainability policies that the Island requires ».

It affects the “poor argumentation” of the parties that rejected his proposal, which he blames for “leaving the door open for the Fonsalía project to materialize in the future and destroying the ecosystems of an area that should be included in the ZEC for its biodiversity and environmental values ”.

The area that is unprotected is located “in the middle of the area of 69,489 hectares protected under the figure of the ZEC, which occupy the coastline of the municipalities of Buenavista del Norte, Santiago del Teide, Guía de Isora, Adeje and Arona.” Sí Podemos Canarias perceives as “obvious” that said enclave “also has sufficient scientific backing to include this site in the Teno-Rasca Special Conservation Zone.”
