The unitary school of Valles de Ortega, situated in the municipality of Antigua, has been awarded the Canary Islands Award for Best Comedy Short Film in the primary-infant category at the 11th Cinedfest Educational Film Festival.
After qualifying as finalists, the 22 students of the school, along with their headmistress, Carmen Camino, and their teacher, José Antonio Cabrera Jiménez, requested the Antigua Town Hall to allow them to travel to Tenerife to attend the festival gala. The mayor, Matías Peña García, immediately agreed to provide the flight, thus fulfilling the children’s dream.
During the gala held in Tenerife, the students of Valles de Ortega unitary school were filled with emotion when they heard that they had been awarded the First Prize of the Canary Islands at Cinedfest for their comedy short film titled The Teacher Disappeared.

The Mayor of Antigua, Matías Peña García, mentioned that initially they congratulated the school for qualifying as finalists, and when asked what they wanted as a prize, the response was clear: “Travel all together to Tenerife.”
The Town Hall immediately granted this wish, which was rewarded by the emotion and enthusiasm shown by the students during the gala.
The school’s headmistress, Carmen Camino, stated that this trip to Tenerife and the award received have sparked new dreams and a desire to continue working together with families and faculty on future projects that demonstrate the students’ creativity and learning.
