The Tenerife Island Council, through the Natural Environment, Sustainability and Safety department and Emergency services, have reminded that bonfires are prohibited during the celebrations of San Juan and San Pedro on the 23rd and 28th of June, respectively, in all high-risk forest fire areas of the island, including all foothills and the Rural Parks of Teno and Anaga.

Having declared a forest fire alert period on the island from June 3rd to November 3rd this year, the Council has prohibited the bonfires of San Juan and San Pedro in the designated risk area.

In areas outside the forest fire risk zone, where authorization is the responsibility of the Municipalities, bonfires may be authorized if they comply with the remaining regulations, authorization that will depend on the local authorities.

The Tenerife Firefighters Consortium will activate a special attention operation in the island parks during this traditional celebration, as it can lead to exceptional situations. It is worth noting that there may be bonfires that get out of control, are not properly extinguished, generate pollution or burn contaminating elements.

In this way, between 19:00 and 01:00, the daily service of 48 firefighters will be increased by 12 additional personnel, providing reinforcement in each of the three operational zones on the island (North, Metropolitan and South). These personnel can be deployed to any necessary location.

Furthermore, during the same hours, the coordination technicians of the Fire Department located at CECOES-112 will be reinforced and an Officer will be in charge of the entire firefighting operation. Along with this professional operation, the Consortium relies on eight Volunteer Firefighter Associations, which will also provide services throughout the San Juan night.
