The Ágora Center for Attention to Diversity Association, which operates in the south of Tenerife, provides its services to 70 people with intellectual disabilities, as well as their families and companions, with the aim of enhancing their personal autonomy and job placement through , for example, from job search activities or internships in companies.
For this, since 2016, the Ágora Center has the support of the Cabildo de Tenerife, through the Institute of Social and Socio-Health Care, which this year has financed the association with 45,000 euros. An item, received through the Insular Ring of Social Policies, which has allowed to serve some 20 people and their families in 2021, for the acquisition of skills and attitudes that allow an adequate development of cognitive, affective, social or physical aspects, in depending on the needs of each one of them. This program aims to ensure that the people served have the ability to adapt to different social and work environments that allows them to achieve a certain degree of independence.
The association considers the help of the IASS essential, “above all, for hiring the workers we need to carry out our work” and they assure that without it “we could not offer this support service to any user”.
The Insular Institute values the work carried out by Centro Ágora in pursuit of the well-being of one of the most vulnerable groups, such as people with intellectual disabilities, providing users with the necessary tools to face their day-to-day life and participate in the whole of the society.
