SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 18th June (EUROPA PRESS) –

Inaugurating the new wastewater treatment plant (EDARI) at the Granadilla Industrial Estate, the Minister of Industry of the Cabildo, Manuel Fernández, and the Vice-Minister of Economy and Internationalization of the Canary Islands Government, Gustavo González de Vega, presided over the event as president and vice president of the board of directors of the industrial area.

Amongst others present at the inauguration were the Councilor for the Environment of Granadilla City Council, Marcos Antonio Rodríguez, and the manager of the Industrial Area, Gerardo López.

With a budget of 6,935,083.33 Euros, the WWTP at the Granadilla Industrial Estate will cater not only to the existing urbanized areas but also to future urban developments and the facilities of the Port of Granadilla and DISA.

Manuel Fernández, the Industry Councilor of the Cabildo and president of the board of directors of the Granadilla Industrial Area, emphasized that “today is significant for Tenerife as we fulfil an environmental commitment, extending services not only to the industrial estate but also to the port and ITER, which is essential as the Cabildo works towards creating a more sustainable island.”

Highlighting the ongoing efforts to expand the industrial estate, Manuel Fernández mentioned that “we are currently progressing with a project of island interest for the expansion of the industrial area, aiming to double the industrial space of the Granadilla industrial estate, a crucial step to reaffirm the industrial sector’s role as a key activity for economic diversification.” He further pointed out that “the industrial sector comprises 1,300 businesses, providing over 17,000 direct jobs and 50,000 indirect jobs.”

On the other hand, Gustavo González de Vega, the Vice-Minister of Industry and Internationalization of the Canary Islands Government and vice president of the board of directors of the Granadilla Industrial Estate, commended the estate for its achievements and appreciated the Cabildo’s dedication to ensuring a balance between industrial progress and sustainability through this treatment plant.

González de Vega expressed that “for the Government of the Canary Islands, the circular economy and blue economy strategy that we are jointly developing is a top priority, and this facility exemplifies our commitment. This infrastructure secures the future development of the estate, the port of Granadilla, and the entire vicinity.”
