El Médano will soon boast two pioneering modular parking facilities, a first on the island of Tenerife, providing around 230 spaces initially with room for expansion, strategically located in two key areas of this picturesque coastal town. The total budget allocated for the development of both projects stands at 67,900 euros. With this initiative, the Granada City Council seeks to address one of the main issues faced by this popular seaside destination, which also happens to be the most visited spot within the Granada municipality.
Preparations for both projects have commenced this week with the city council issuing tenders, aiming to finalize the design phase within an estimated two and a half months.
These modern facilities will feature prefabricated, portable, scalable, reusable, eco-friendly, and recyclable modular systems. The proposed car park on Tenerife Street is set to accommodate a minimum of 180 spaces, while the one on Magallanes Avenue will offer 50 parking spots.
Due to the multi-storey design, it will be possible to dismantle and extend sections of the structure effortlessly, quickly, and cost-effectively, offering flexibility in creating additional parking areas and ensuring the building can adapt to evolving needs in a sustainable manner. While this venture is the first of its kind in Tenerife, a similar project has been successfully implemented in the heart of Las Palmas in Gran Canaria, with another in progress in Telde.
Recent site visits were conducted by the Mayor of Granadilla, Jennifer Miranda, accompanied by the councillors for Ecological Transition, Marcos Antonio Rodríguez, and Urban Planning, Óscar Delgado, to the designated sites for these innovative car parks, set to meet the urgent demand within the community. Furthermore, efforts are underway to introduce similar infrastructure in other areas of Granadilla, including the town centre of San Isidro.

EXTRARADIO

The upcoming modular car parks will be positioned on the outskirts of El Médano, specifically on Tenerife Street, neighbouring the football field, and on Magallanes Avenue, in close proximity to the M3 sports centre. Once the planning phase is finalised, the construction tenders will be opened for these state-of-the-art vertical car parks.
Miranda emphasises that this initiative underscores the government’s dedication to alleviating significant parking shortages, thereby offering a solution to a long-standing issue in El Médano. In a similar vein, Marcos Antonio Rodríguez stresses that this action, integrated into the municipality’s Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan, aims to “enhance the appeal of the area, boost mobility, and reduce the carbon footprint.”
