SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 14th June (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Court of Violence against Women Number 2 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife has found the man who imprisoned his wife for a month in their home in the Tejina neighbourhood (La Laguna) guilty of making threats. The man was ultimately apprehended by the Local Police after the victim discreetly sought help by tossing written notes into the street.
The court’s sentence, revealed this Friday, mandates 90 days of community service involving participation in equality and conflict resolution workshops. Additionally, the man is banned from possessing weapons for two years and eight months and is restrained from approaching the victim within a 500-meter radius for eight months for the charges of threats and coercion.
It was established as fact that the couple got married in August last year, but it wasn’t until May 8 when the woman relocated to Tenerife to live with her husband.
A mere day after her arrival on the island, the first altercation between the two occurred, during which the man threatened to “decapitate” her, a threat that he reiterated in a video call with his mother-in-law.
Subsequently, on June 7, he forcibly took the woman out of bed in her nightwear and escorted her onto the street, stating “come see what I’m doing for both of us,” before compelling her into his car and confiscating her mobile phone, which she was using to contact the man’s former partner.
The man was apprehended last Tuesday by the Local Police following a tip-off from a vigilant neighbour who stumbled upon the victim’s plead for help in written notes. The woman disclosed that she had been confined in the house for a month, her passport had been seized, and she had been subjected to mistreatment.
