The Ofra-Costa Sur district of the Santa Cruz City Council is hosting a magical event this Saturday, 15th June, featuring a dance of wizards in the Chamberí neighbourhood as part of the organized activities in that part of the city. The festivities will kick off at 5:00 p.m. with a procession of folk groups parading through the neighbourhood’s streets, culminating at the sports centre where most of the entertainment will take place.

The route will commence on Juan de Ravina street, passing San Juan de la Cruz, continuing along Ribadeneyra street until intersecting with Juan de Ávila street and then proceeding to the entrance of the San Martín de Porres Neighborhood Association at number 23. The parade is expected to last between 15 to 30 minutes. The wizardry dance will be held inside the Chamberí sports centre from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., featuring performances by various folk groups such as Orígenes, Verode, Atenguajos, Santo Ángel and Alborada. There will also be Canarian-themed workshops for children.

Santa Cruz Mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, encourages the city’s residents to take part in this celebration of traditions. “The Santa Cruz Magician’s Ball is a highlight of the May Festivals. Therefore, it is great news for the city when each district partakes and invites its residents to engage in this time-honoured gathering.”

Councilor Santiago Díaz Mejías, in charge of the district, stated that “Ofra-Costa Sur boasts numerous folk groups and associations, showcasing the deep-rooted love for our folklore among the locals.” He emphasised that “fostering an appreciation for Folklore is vital for preserving our customs and traditions, making it essential for administrations to promote it.”

To conclude, Díaz Mejías mentioned, “The Ofra-Costa Sur district is committed to promoting our cultural identity and, as such, is organising a magic dance on the 15th of June this year in the Chamberí neighbourhood.” He also highlighted that “tables and benches will be set up at the sports centre for attendees to encourage neighbourly bonding.”
