In a special event happening on Sunday, June 16, renowned chefs hailing from Tenerife and the mainland, many of whom are adorned with Michelin stars, will be showcasing their culinary skills by offering a delectable seafood tasting on the picturesque shores of Los Cristianos Bay. The tasting will take place between 11:30 and 17:30 and is open to all visitors at affordable prices.

This exclusive tasting, accessible to a wide audience, serves as the inaugural activity of the Seas Encounter event. The congress aims to bring together distinguished marine biologists, oceanographers, fishing industry representatives, nutritionists, and renowned chefs, all united in their mission to promote sea culture and tackle the challenges of ocean conservation from various angles.

In its sixth edition and being held in Tenerife for the second year in a row, this congress is organised by Vocento Gastronomy with primary sponsorship from the Tenerife Island Council and the Economic Promotion and Employment Departments of Arona and Fagor City Councils. Partners of the event include Cervezas Victoria, La Noveau Chef, and El Locero. Additionally, official suppliers are 50 Aquanaria and Makro, while the official hotel is the Villa Cortés in Playa de Las Américas.

Dácil León, Councillor for Tourism, Economic Promotion, Employment, and Primary Sector in Arona, urges everyone to attend this exceptional gastronomic gathering. The event will witness the coming together of “a true galaxy” of Michelin-starred chefs, recognised for their dedication to marine produce, sustainability, locally sourced ingredients, and their commitment to harmonising seafood consumption with fishing and environmental conservation. León stresses the importance of preserving marine ecosystems and biodiversity for the enjoyment and well-being of future generations.

The theme of this congress is ‘Blue Health, reconnecting the nexus between the ocean and human health’, and it will feature over 30 speakers. Discussions will cover topics such as blue nutrition, fostering a balanced relationship between humans and fish, promoting increased fish consumption in households, and the synergy between biology, fishing, and gastronomy. Participants will also explore avenues for businesses based on marine diet components, the Atlantic diet’s role in healthy aging, the impact of marine foods on mental health, and other related topics like blue tourism.

The culinary aspect intertwined with the sea, commencing this Sunday in Los Cristianos and continuing with various presentations throughout the congress, will draw together 18 acclaimed Spanish chefs alongside culinary talents from Italy, Norway, and the Philippines in the South of Tenerife.
