SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 12th June. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Today, Wednesday, the Noble Hall of the Cabildo of Tenerife was the venue for the unveiling of the eighth edition of the ‘Buenavista Diversa’ festival, a joint initiative by the insular Institution, through its Social Engagement and Tourism departments, and the Buenavista City Council. This year, it is themed ‘Embracing Diversity’, aiming to engage a broader audience than previous editions, fostering inclusion in a secure setting.

The vice president of the Cabildo, Lope Afonso; The Minister of Social Engagement, Águeda Fumero, and the mayor of Buenavista, Eva García, disclosed the specifics of this festival, scheduled to take place in the Plaza de Los Remedios from June 13 to 16.

Lope Afonso accentuated the significance of “holding an event of this nature in the Isla Baja region, specifically in the municipality of Buenavista, a distinctive location, where efforts will be dedicated these days, particularly, towards celebrating diversity and individuals.”

Afonso praised “the cooperative efforts between the Buenavista City Council and the Tenerife Cabildo, as well as the collaboration among the public and private sectors, culminating in the arrangement of a festival that promotes people’s well-being and has a positive impact in an inclusive and accessible setting.

On her part, the Minister of Social Engagement, Águeda Fumero, emphasised that “Tenerife is a diverse island”, a fact “evident with the hosting of this event, where our intention was to engage with an approach centred on coexistence, within an increasingly diverse society.

The mayor of Buenavista, Eva García, affirmed that “it is a source of pride to advocate for an initiative like this, centred around diversity, creating an all-encompassing space where each individual feels valued and respected.”

The mayor revealed that the Festival’s inauguration will take place on Thursday, 13th June at the rear of the Church of Los Remedios, renamed ‘Diversity Stage’ for the festival, featuring the presence of renowned Spanish author and filmmaker Albert Espinosa, who will deliver the presentation ‘Have faith in dreams and they will materialise’. Subsequently, The Vid Band will animate the evening with a procession.

On Friday, the 14th, commencing in the morning, the various Tetris pieces will materialise as lanes encircling the Plaza de los Remedios (Ask, Comprehend, Esteem, Express Yourself, and Acquire), showcasing the outcomes of earlier activities developed by various groups in the municipality. Additionally, throughout the day, there will be diverse workshops and performances, highlighting the female comedy show ‘Ni una más’, directed by Canarian artists Yessika Rojano, Alicia Rodríguez, Guacimara Gil, and Iratxe Menalber.

For Saturday, the 15th, the festival offers a fusion of cultural and entertainment events for all demographics: adapted dance masterclass, workshops, discussions, exhibitions, farmers’ and artisans’ markets, among other activities. Concurrently, the VI Popular Solidarity Race will transpire. Furthermore, from 8:00 p.m., attendees can revel in the Diversity Stage, hosting Inclusive Concerts, where they will have avant-garde sensory backpacks to make music accessible to everyone.

The activities on Sunday, 16th, kick off with an adapted yoga class for neurodiversity and individuals with limited mobility. Throughtout the day, various activities are planned, with highlights including ‘Melodies for Diversity’ or the theatrical production ‘No matter what’.

The festival features a diverse gastronomic selection in bars, food trucks, and refreshment stands, and as a novelty, this eighth edition will incorporate the ‘Lighthouse Point of Assistance and Information’, a designated area for all attendees to address queries, breaking down barriers to universal accessibility.
