The Commission for Autonomous Environmental Evaluation has released a promising environmental impact evaluation regarding the proposal for constructing a third lane on the TF-5, southbound, connecting Guamasa and the Northern airport. The report states that “there are no significant detrimental effects on the environment”, therefore, the project is not required to undergo the standard environmental impact evaluation process, provided that the environmental guidelines outlined in the report and its annex are adhered to.
This conclusion is detailed in the resolution published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands by the Department of Ecological Transition. The report explains that the simplified environmental impact assessment conducted evaluated the project’s effects on the environment in terms of flora, fauna, soil, tangible assets, human well-being, air quality, and water resources, among other aspects.
The report outlines specific environmental guidelines that need to be followed, such as ensuring that construction and environmental rehabilitation proceed in tandem. It also mandates an assessment of pollution stemming from dust emissions and a new examination of noise levels. Additionally, measures must be taken to safeguard the integrity of adjacent properties.
In addition to constructing the third lane, the project includes upgrading the links in Guamasa, the Tenerife North airport (El Púlpito), and the San Lázaro access road. It also involves building an elevated roundabout east of the airport terminal.
The forthcoming steps include finalizing an agreement between the Government and the Cabildo, which will oversee the project. The estimated cost of the construction works is around 55 million Euros.
