Yesterday, the Government of the Canary Islands announced a tender for the construction of eleven social housing units in La Jurada, Granadilla de Fertilize. This urgent project, facilitated by a regional decree law, will have a reduced timeframe of 24 months with a budget of €1.6 million.

The allocated budget will be split into three yearly instalments: €471,661.77 for this year, €1.051 million for 2025, and €118,372.45 for 2026.

This initiative aims to address the housing shortage in the southern municipality, in line with the Canary Islands Housing Plan 2020-2025, promoting the construction of affordable homes.

Councilor Adán García stated, “We are committed to contributing €1 million towards the Activa Housing 2024 Plan, in addition to the Cabildo subsidy, to purchase 15 homes,” helping alleviate the decade-long public housing issue in collaboration with the Government.

Mayor Jennifer Miranda emphasised the importance of expanding public housing during this term, citing efforts such as providing land to the Canary Islands Housing Institute and unlocking 294 homes in Los Hinojeros for affordable rentals.

García expressed disappointment in the lack of municipal housing policies in recent years but highlighted efforts like allocating land for housing construction and doubling the budget for home rehabilitation assistance.

Furthermore, a meeting was held between the local government and the Minister of Public Works, Roads and Housing of the Canary Islands, Pablo Rodríguez, to streamline interventions and address judicial concerns.
