Lack of electoral programme, a populist discourse based on attacks on the system and carrying the flag of “real news”. This is how Alvise Pérez has slipped in among the most voted political forces in Spain and has secured three seats in Brussels. Almost 800,000 votes across Spain have elevated him to the European Parliament.
The power of social media is growing, and this influencer, a former press officer for Toni Cantó in Citizens, has gathered a large community of squirrels that has made its way to the polls. Amid allegations of hoaxes, unverified news, or copies from other publications, Alvise has polarised opinion about himself: some see him as the new saviour of Spanish politics, while the other side views him as a mere liar and stirrer of the masses.
With an ideology more aligned with VOX than any other party, Alvise has managed to garner numerous votes across the country. 4.6% of voters – amidst high levels of abstention – have sided with the political consultant, and in Canary Islands, it is no different. He has secured 42,730 votes in the Islands, becoming the fifth most voted political force with 6.31% of the votes. He has surpassed parties like Sumar, Podemos, or PACMA.
