CC laments the “polarisation” of state parties impacting European election turnout

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 9th June (EUROPA PRESS) –

David Toledo, the secretary of the Organisation of the Canary Coalition (CC), expressed his disappointment on Sunday over the “polarisation” of state parties in the European elections, which has resulted in hindered participation, with just under 30% turnout in the Canary Islands.

Speaking at the campaign headquarters, Toledo noted that the participation rate is “concerning”, seven points lower than the 2014 elections – when they were held along with other elections -, attributing this decline to the overwhelming presence of major state parties that have discouraged voter turnout.

Toledo expressed a wish for more “discussions” on campaign issues compared to the approach of CC candidate, Carlos Alonso, who firmly “supports the Canary Islands” and has incorporated proposals for all the islands in his agenda.

Addressing the polls that suggest CC may not secure a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) and show a close race between the Popular Party and the Socialists, he urged for “caution” until the official results are announced starting at 10:00 p.m.
