The refurbishment undertaking at the Las Teresitas seaside front, situated at the edge of this bathing zone on the Santa Cruz shoreline, has caused inconvenience among seaside visitors, as over half of the land area is cordoned off, a space frequently utilized for parking.

The Santa Cruz Town Hall has opted for this closure to set up the Satocan company’s machinery, responsible for enhancing the breakwater. Bathing and entry to the sand are also restricted in the cove locality near the breakwater.

This has led to a gridlock of vehicles attempting to park in the vicinity to revel in a Sunday by the beach. The large concentration of individuals on particular days, such as weekends, results in extensive queues in the zone to try to get parking.

The rehabilitation project of the Las Teresitas seaside breakwater, involving an investment of 2.1 million euros and a timeline of 7 months, aims to revive the breakwater for strolling and entering the sea in complete security. An urgently needed intervention by the municipal council, as the breakwater, constructed in the 80s, is lacking blocks in the covering layer, due to their collapse, particularly on the outer incline and towards the structure’s end.

Following its restoration, the breakwater, impacted by the waves, will be substituted, elevating it a few centimetres. Furthermore, the complete promenade will undergo a makeover, new sea access stairs will be added and a ramp will link the breakwater to the sand.

Resolving the congestion issue

The capital Town Hall, Cabildo, Ports of Tenerife, and Titsa have reached an accord to initiate a trial scheme that includes establishing a designated bus lane operational from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on high-traffic days to the beach, a specific path from the harbour roundabout, in Cueva Bermeja, to San Andrés.

This lane, accessible for route 910 and emergency vehicles, will inherently eradicate street parking along the primary avenue in the fishing quarter, en route to Las Teresitas.

In addition to instating this lane during peak days at the bay, the frequency of bus services will also be raised, with buses departing every 8 minutes from the Interchange.
