TENERIFE STYLE | Sustainable Designs and Flamenco Fashion at the Fashion Fair

Sustainable design, ceremony, and flamenco fashion opened the catwalk of the International Fashion Fair of Tenerife yesterday, following the prelude on Thursday with the XIII Young Designers Contest, where Marco&María and invited brands from other islands showcased their new collections in the Black Box of the Fairground.

The sustainable Slow Fashion took the lead in inaugurating the large commercial catwalk of the Fair. The artisanal and ecological designs kicked off the nearly forty fashion shows that will take place in this event, organized by the Tenerife Island Council, until tomorrow.

In the Black Box, located in the heart of the fairground, circular and ecological fashion displayed the designs crafted by the students participating in the editions of the Slow Fashion Sustainable Fashion Week, promoted by the island Corporation along with CIFP Las Indias and the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of La Laguna (ULL). Recycled garments shared the catwalk with the artisanal brands of Tenerife, Nathalie Leturcq and Amanita.

The first day of commercial shows also featured invited ceremonial and party brands from other islands that paraded in the afternoon at the Black Box. Attendees were able to enjoy the new collections of Diazar (La Palma), Oswaldo Machín (Lanzarote), Lucas Balboa, and Pedro Palmas (Gran Canaria). In the evening session, the prestigious Tenerife Moda brand Marco&María took the stage after several years to present their new women’s proposal.

The final touch to this first day of the catwalk was the flamenco fashion show by the Sevillian designers José Juan Hurtado and José Galván, responsible for closing the Black Box with the colours and art of Andalusia.

Tenerife Moda pays special tribute to flamenco fashion within the fair activities with the participation of the winners of the last edition of the Youth Designers Competition of the International Flamenco Fashion Week (Simof 2024), José Juan Hurtado and José Galván. Their proposals are characterized by classic shapes, highlighting broader flamenco-inspired lines.

Efraín Medina commented: “For us, it is very important to enjoy two designers who showcase such quality in their collections at the Tenerife Fashion Fair. It is a blend of creativity and style for an event that we have revitalised with a renewed image, more vibrant than ever.”

Luisa Vera, a flamenco fashion designer, expressed her satisfaction after visiting the International Fashion Fair of Tenerife. “I have been very impressed and have seen things that I found incredible,” she noted, adding: “Delighted that they have organised such a beautiful event and consider coming to visit our fair.”

Throughout the day, numerous activities and parallel fashion shows took place in the spaces distributed this year at the Fashion Fair.

Thus, in the Urban Zone, there were photoshoots, fashion talks, live music, and catwalks featuring streetwear brands like Vans, Timberland, Levis, and Moske. Meanwhile, among the scheduled activities at the Hairdressing and Beauty Fair by Franko Hairdresser, an event that returns this year alongside the Fashion Fair, there were shows, presentations, and decorative nail battles, from morning until seven in the evening.

Today, Saturday, is an intense day. From international trends in the Black Box at 12:30, Rama (Senegal), Lucía de Su (Tenerife), and Dode Kodee (Indonesia) take the stage, alongside Ceremonial and Party with several standout moments. For instance, at 1:30 PM, featuring catwalks by the Tenerife brand Javilar, Mado Vigarok, La Trajería, and Inmaculada Rodrigues. At 7 PM, the spotlight shifts to By Loleiro (Tenerife), Amarca (Tenerife); José Acosta (Tenerife), and Baro Lucas (Castilla-León).

The evening closes brilliantly with the locals Rodrigo Piñeiro and Sedomir de la Sierra, alongside the Venezuelan designers Eduardo and Enzo Koii, one of the main attractions of the 2024 International Fashion Fair.
