The recreational spot known as Las Mesas Park in Santa Cruz de Tenerife has sadly deteriorated into what visitors describe as a “dumping ground”, as highlighted on the social media platform ‘X’.

The significant amount of litter scattered across this natural area in the city has sparked concerns among the public regarding its upkeep and cleanliness.

The accompanying images displaying the vast amount of plastic waste, food remnants, and discarded papers in Las Mesas Park serve as evidence of the problem, prompting calls for greater civility and surveillance to prevent such behaviours.

This is not the first instance where visitors have brought attention to the poor state of upkeep in this recreational spot. On previous occasions, similar uncivil conduct leading to the accumulation of abandoned rubbish was exposed through the same social platform ‘X’.

THE PARK OF TABLES

In November 2022, Las Mesas Park was reopened, emerging as the sole recreational area in Santa Cruz de Tenerife offering picnic facilities, alongside stunning views of the city.

The park welcomes the public from 08:00 to 19:00 during winter, extending until 21:00 in summer. Visitors can relish a vast recreational area, a generous children’s zone, designated spaces for individuals with disabilities, provisions to connect with nature, and even a mini zipline in the children’s play zone.

The use of amplified sound systems is strictly prohibited within the premises. The emission of noise must not surpass eight decibels. Portable barbecues and carrying beverages beyond the designated area are also barred. Furthermore, horses, motorised vehicles, or bicycles are prohibited in the picnic zone and play area.

To uphold security at Las Mesas Park, personnel from the Forest Unit, Local Police, and Parks and Gardens department will be present to deter vandalism, with penalties for such actions exceeding 200 euros as per the regulations enforced by the City Council.
