Domínguez adds that «Whoever has delegated the competence must assume the responsibilities, in this case the mayor; he is the one who must provide the area with sufficient resources to have the personnel to manage this department correctly and not let it die, as is happening now. He comments that the municipal group had considered requesting the resignation of the councilor, but they rejected it since “they do not know how to conjugate the verb resign.”

The nationalist spokesman recalled that, historically, lagoon sport has offered a great projection of the municipality and that La Laguna has been a benchmark in the organization of events and in the promotion of grassroots, quarry and elite sports.

For her part, Councilor Patricia Negrón recalled that the City Council established years ago a line of aid or subsidies for athletes from the quarry and elite, both individuals and teams. “With the previous government an average of 870,000 euros per year was allocated and the involvement of these clubs with the quarry is valued”, he values.

Negron Review that “Those corresponding to 2018 were processed and published by CC and then, nothing.” He adds that “in the year that the Government left CC, 2019, almost 500,000 euros were consigned” but, he adds, “we are in 2021 and the athletes have not yet received the subsidy corresponding to the 2019-2020 season. An example of the null management of the OAD, and the lack of responsibility towards the daily work of the clubs and athletes, which endanger their survival ». It lists that these delays affect 94 federated clubs, as well as 33 athletes and ten elite teams.

They also warn that «although the memory of the Sports budget for this year foresees 25,000 euros for prizes, neither in 2020 nor in 2021 have competitions been organized ”.

Questions

The councilor raises several questions: “Where is the money from 2020 and 2021 that has not been spent? Has it been earmarked for other policies? Has it been invested in clubs, athletes or facilities? ». Remember that the OAD has not yet returned the money for the registrations of the Night Race suspended by the Covid in March 2020.

Another criticism refers to “the poor condition of the sports facilities, without proper maintenance, although thousands of boys and girls train daily.” They point out that “in 2020, not a single euro was budgeted for works and infrastructure and in 2021 we have not seen major actions.” The councilor highlights “the poor state of the lawn at the La Manzanilla stadium, whose maintenance contract ended before the summer.”

The problem with canteens has also been addressed. Domínguez specifies that “the local government cannot charge the clubs with the arrangement, as they are municipal facilities.” For the nationalists “it is the tip of the iceberg of poor management that lets the sport of the lagoon die.”
