In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, seven hotels (Contemporáneo, Taburiente, AC Marriot, NH Tenerife, Urban Anaga, Silken Atlántida, and Innside by Meliá) are participating in Hotel Juernes, a leisure initiative led by the Hotel and Non-Hotel Association of Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro (Ashotel), in collaboration with the City Council. The programme, running from April to June, aims to bring life to the city’s hotel scene with evening cocktail events, tastings, and live music.

Despite this, five of these establishments part of the programme “do not possess the necessary permits for hosting musical events,” as explained by the Licensing Service of Urban Planning Management in response to the socialist group, a notice obtained by DIARIO.

PSOE councillor Alana Chinea requested a report from the municipal authorities on May 16, expressing the group’s lack of knowledge about the required licenses for the musical activities advertised by the City Council for the Hotel Juernes programme. As a result, the councillor demanded to see the music licenses for AC Marriott, Contemporáneo, Taburiente, Silken Atlantis, and Innside by Meliá.

The Urban Planning department responded on May 29, confirming the absence of licenses permitting these hotels to host musical events for the public.

In light of these findings, PSOE spokesperson Patricia Hernández stated that based on the City Council’s information, “we will raise this issue in the municipal control commission, as we await a decision on whether the 80,000 Euros in subsidies granted to Ashotel for a private event will be returned, especially since some hotels in the programme lack the required music license.”

Hernández cautioned that if the council does not return the funds, the socialist group will consider legal action to reclaim the amount, as previously declared during the council session on April 26.

She highlighted that this subsidy is not included in the 2024 municipal budget, suggesting that it was surreptitiously added to the Strategic Subsidy Plan for 2023, which is against the law. Hence, they demand its annulment.

Response to the socialists’ concerns, Councilor for Human Resources, Purificación Dávila, clarified that the City Council has not initiated any reimbursement process for the 80,000 euros subsidy awarded to the hotel entity for the Hotel Juernes programme.
