SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 3 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The leader of the People’s Party (PP), Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has emphasised on Monday that Gabriel Mato from La Palma is “the finest” and “the sole” MEP who will secure a spot in the European Parliament. That’s why he urges for support from “all Canarians” and not just those who traditionally vote for the PP.
“Victory for the People’s Party is crucial in the Canary Islands,” he highlighted at a gathering in Tenerife, stressing that no other candidate will champion the interests of the islands as effectively as Mato. He jokingly mentioned they won’t be advocating for “a gentleman from the Cantabrian coast” – alluding to the electoral alliances of nationalist parties.
Feijóo mentioned that crucial decisions are made in Strasbourg and Brussels, underlining the high stakes for the Canary Islands in ensuring Europe functions effectively. He noted that significant decisions are taken on various sectors like fishing, livestock, agriculture, energy, tourism, industry, transportation, and immigration. “Our interests are at great risk,” he added.
The leader of the People’s Party once again pushed for a unified EBAU in the presence of the Education Minister of the Canary Islands, Poli Suárez (PP), even though initially the Canary Islands opposed the measure. He stated that politicians need to be there to “address challenges.”
He has suggested that for young Spaniards to attend any university, there should be an exam with “uniform content” and “consistent evaluation criteria” to commence “shaping the future” of the youth.
