Today, Santa Cruz de Tenerife officially opens the first stretch of La Rosa Street to traffic. This follows the completion of extensive renovation and modernization efforts on this central urban thoroughfare, a project that commenced in July 2023. The announcement was made by the city’s mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, who, alongside the Infrastructure Councillor, Javier Rivero, and the Development Society’s delegate councilor, Carmen Pérez, oversaw the successful conclusion of this initial phase.

The renovation and modernization of La Rosa Street aim to enhance its accessibility, expand its walkways, and cultivate a more pedestrian-friendly environment. Additionally, the project seeks to drive commerce and encourage shopping along this bustling artery within the El Toscal neighbourhood.
In his remarks, Infrastructure Mayor Javier Rivero underscored that “the revitalization of La Rosa Street marks the beginning of a new chapter. With the opening of this first segment leading to El Saludo Street, work will soon commence this summer between Primero de Ravina Street and San Antonio Street. This latter phase will be executed concurrently in three stages to expedite progress.” Mayor Rivero further elaborated, stating that “the objective is to accelerate the completion of works, ultimately culminating in the launch of the third and final phase by next July. This timeline has been strategically chosen to avoid disruptions ahead of the upcoming academic year.” .
Rivero summarised, “As per the outlined plan, today marks the initiation of the next phase along Primero de Rabina Street. Subsequently, summer will witness the commencement of activities within the third phase, impacting the local schools of Onesimo Redondo and Home-School.”
On the other hand, Purificación Dávila, the councillor of the Centro-Ifara district, expressed her contentment with the project outcomes. She acknowledged the various challenges encountered during the road pavement elevation, which led to substantial delays that required rectification. Dávila emphasised that “the pace of construction will be expedited by the Municipal Infrastructure department, suggesting that the revitalisation of the initial stage of modernising and rejuvenating ‘El Toscal’ will likely conclude before the upcoming academic term.”
Meanwhile, Carmen Pérez, the CEO of the Development Society, highlighted that “despite businesses remaining operational, there was inevitable disruption caused by the renovation works. To bolster economic activity in this area, a new Consumer Bonds campaign will be launched, specifically targeting La Rosa.”
