On Sunday, June 2nd, Granadilla de Abona came alive with folklore and tradition to mark its XLVI pilgrimage, one of the most ancient and significant events in the southern region. The festivities commenced with a mass performed by the Parranda Chasnera, the official music group of the Patron Saint Festivities. The celebrations in honour of Saint Anthony of Padua started at the main church.

Once again, the dancers from El Hierro led the procession taking the patron saint outside the church. The procession included a dozen floats and around thirty vehicles, accompanied by the lively music of folk bands and rondallas. The mayor, Jennifer Miranda, along with the councillor for Culture and Festivals, Francisco Socas, and other local officials, received the traditional offerings.

Thousands of people gathered on this sunny Sunday to witness the pilgrimage along the historic streets of Isaac de Vega, San Francisco, and the El Calvario area, culminating in Parque Los Hinojeros. The XXXV Crafts Fair also took place in the iconic Arquitecto Marrero Regalado street and González Mena square, featuring around twenty stalls selling a variety of crafts such as crochet, watercolor paintings, creative jewellery, cosmetics, pottery, wooden toys, and pastries.

Mayor Jennifer Miranda expressed gratitude to everyone who participated in this grand celebration, from those with floats and carts to the folklore groups and the general public who did not want to miss out on one of the most anticipated events of the Patron Saint Festivities. Councillor Francisco Socas took the opportunity to commend the residents of Granadilla who decorated the facades, balconies, and shop windows of the historic centre, adding more charm and vibrancy to the festivities. He also encouraged the community to actively participate in the upcoming events leading up to June 13, the patron’s day. The XLVI pilgrimage concluded at Los Hinojeros Park, followed by a vibrant celebration featuring performances by the Gomera, Armonía Show, Sabrosa, and Atlantic orchestras.
