VALVERDE (EL HIERRO), 2 June (EUROPA PRESS) –
Yesterday morning, the Maritime Rescue team saved a small boat carrying 61 men from sub-Saharan Africa, including one minor, as it was sailing approximately eight nautical miles south of La Restinga on the island of El Hierro.
The national agency reported that just before 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, the Civil Guard alerted the Rescue Centre in Tenerife of a radar signal, potentially a small boat or “patera”, in the southern waters of the island.
Consequently, the Salvamar Adhara was dispatched and, around 02:50 hours, located the small boat and escorted it to the La Restinga Dock, reaching the destination at around 03:30 hours.
Upon reaching land, a medical team comprising of the Red Cross and the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) provided assistance to the 61 migrants, all of whom appeared to be in good health.
