The mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, has once again put the debate on the table about whether it is necessary to require the COVID certificate to access the interiors. Bermúdez showed his concern about the rising data of COVID infections, for which he asked the Government of the Canary Islands to “take a step forward” to demand, from now on, the vaccination certificate to access the interiors, without the need to limit capacity, to be all vaccinated.
“I am concerned about the evolution in the increase in infections, and I am concerned as much or more about the need to save the hospitality industry, because that is the same as saving jobs.”
Bermúdez defended that it is necessary to “guarantee” the rights of those who “yes we have complied with.” “We have the right to enter indoor spaces without capacity, because we all have greater immunity against those who have not been vaccinated,” he added.
The mayor also asked Public Health to pronounce as soon as possible on the Christmas program because, “we cannot work with this uncertainty.”
The Party councilor expressed himself in the same vein, assuring that, “we are at the limit of hiring times”, and advanced that he has already reiterated his request to hold a meeting as soon as possible with Public Health to discuss the Christmas program.
From the Federation of Urban Areas of the Canary Islands (Fauca), its secretary general, Abbas Moujir, supported the request, recalling that “the commerce and catering sector is at stake to remain open or close this Christmas, and we need measures to support us.”
The mayor made these statements during the presentation of the Blakc Friday week in the city, which will take place from October 22 to 29, with some 400 stores that will incorporate numerous discounts.
