SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 30th May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Carlos Alonso, the candidate for the European Parliament from the Canary Coalition, has underlined, during the celebration of Canary Islands Day, that his party stands out as the “sole” party in these European elections that presents specific plans to tackle the issues faced by the Canary Islands.

In a declaration, the nationalist politician pointed out that CC has put forward a total of 43 distinct proposals for these elections, “contrary to other parties like PSOE and PP who fail to mention the Canary Islands even once” in their election manifestos for the polls on 9th June, highlighting how the national parties “show no regard for the issues of the Islands.”

Alonso defended the significance of advocating for the preservation and enhancement of the unique aspects of the Canary Islands in Europe. “We are,” he continued, “the only party addressing the Canary Islands at this crucial juncture, hence, our culture and distinctive characteristics deserve representation in Brussels with a Canarian perspective.”

The candidate elaborated that one of the key proposals of CC is a Residence Law for the Canary Islands aiming to curb population growth, which is currently exerting considerable pressure on aspects such as housing, healthcare, education, transportation, water resources, waste management, and, in general, the environment of our region.

Alongside the Residence Law, he remarked, “we advocate for strategies to tackle the migration issue, address transport expenses, outline our renewable energy plan, present initiatives at the European level for our industry, e-commerce, or the essential boost required by our research and innovation.”

Another core focus of the Canarian Coalition’s endeavours in Europe has been associated with the agricultural sector. In this domain, Alonso has previously emphasised in the lead-up to the campaign “the necessity to demand an augmentation in the POSEI allocation to offset the rise in expenses, reaching up to 357 million euros annually.”

Hence, he reiterated his plea for the mobilisation of the nationalist vote and emphasised on the “strategic ballot of those individuals who previously supported CC, to repeat their support as we are the sole party with a tailored agenda for the Canary Islands.”.
