SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 28th May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Canary Islands’ President, Fernando Clavijo, expressed his hope on Tuesday for “transparency” in the Parliament’s inquiry commission regarding health contracts made during the pandemic and for “political accountability to be clarified.”

During his statements to reporters, he stressed that the judicial matters “are within the jurisdiction of the courts,” and it is the responsibility of the Canary Islands government to “govern” and “cooperate with both the Parliament and the judiciary” in efforts to recuperate the four million euros lost in the payment for one million masks that were not delivered.

“I trust that there will be transparency and that all the explanations that have been long demanded by the media and the public can be provided during the commission,” he expressed.

The commission is set to commence on 1st July, with a list of over 70 individuals scheduled to testify, including the Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, former Transport Minister José Luis Ábalos, his ex-advisor Koldo García, and the ‘mediator’ Antonio Navarro.
