Tenerife’s Council promotes recycling and sustainable consumption in Santa Úrsula

The island area of Natural Environment, Sustainability and Safety and Emergencies promotes recycling and responsible consumption in Santa Úrsula through activities of the Tenerife + Sustainable program. The Green House in the northern municipality hosted the activity “Small gestures to change the world,” with the participation of the island councilor of the area, Blanca Pérez; the island director of Safety and Emergencies, Iván Martín; and the councilor of the Environment, Marina Lorenzo.

Blanca Pérez emphasized that “responsible consumption in our homes is essential to take care of the environment, natural resources and to fight, to the best of our abilities, against climate change, a threat that the planet faces at the moment.” Along that line, she explained that “we can start by reducing food waste, turning off appliances that are not in use, using appropriate cleaning products, and recycling. These are small but important gestures that carry values that we must pass on to the little ones at home to achieve a better world.”

On her part, councilor Marina Lorenzo informed that “the program is aimed at individuals and families in our municipality so that, in an enjoyable way, we learn to plan and develop taking into account sustainability principles. Through small acts and decisions in our daily life habits, we can impact climate change, planet conservation, and our household economy.”

Iván Martín, in his role as the island director of the Environment, mentioned that “we can plan purchases by making a list to buy only what is necessary or choosing locally sourced foods and in the right amounts. Additionally, leftovers can be composted. These are things we can incorporate into our daily lives that help reduce waste and promote responsible consumption.”

The activities at the Green House in Santa Úrsula were carried out through games and workshops where small ideas or actions were provided to contribute to the fight against climate change, planet conservation, and the promotion of saving factors and consumption in the context of the family.
