Canarias Brewery has shown its commitment to the environmental restoration of the La Bermeja area, one of the areas affected by the fire that devastated Tenerife last August, by donating a sum of 26,110 euros to the Foresta Foundation. This organization, in coordination with the Tenerife Council, will manage the use of these funds through various actions aimed at restoring biodiversity in the area.

Jorge Francisco, Operations Manager at Cervecera de Canarias, handed over the cheque to Alicia Rodríguez, the General Director of the Foresta Foundation, at an event attended by Pedro Millán del Rosario, Director of Natural Environment of the Tenerife Council. The donated amount corresponds to the company’s contribution from the solidarity edition launched by the company in October last year, through Dorada, under the motto ‘Strength Tenerife’, in support of the island’s recovery. In addition to this, consumer contributions were made to the Foresta Foundation through the QR code included on the label to facilitate collaboration.

Jorge Francisco emphasized that “this donation reaffirms the company’s commitment and solidarity with its environment, especially with its focus on conservation of the environment, particularly considering a devastating fire like the one the island suffered, the worst in the past 40 years.”

He added that this amount will be allocated to the actions identified as most necessary by the Tenerife Council and Foresta Foundation, and hinted that the company is planning another corporate volunteering initiative with the foundation in the last months of the year, subject to the area’s progress, with an additional contribution of 5,000 euros. He explained that if the drought conditions do not allow this initiative to proceed, the amount will be allocated to other actions linked to the recovery of this area.

On the other hand, Alicia Rodríguez stated that “this contribution will enable the hiring of qualified personnel, promoting green employment, to restore the damaged areas after the fire, primarily carrying out soil cleaning tasks.” She added, “We are very grateful for this contribution and CCC’s continued commitment to the environment in Canarias.”

Pedro Millán thanked “the contribution and commitment of Canarias Brewery as a company and its employees. Public-private collaborations of this kind are even more necessary in the face of a natural disaster like the one that occurred in Tenerife’s mountains in August last year.”

The planned work with this donation will be carried out by the Foresta Foundation, under the supervision of the Environmental Department of the Tenerife Council, in La Bermeja, to the north of the island, starting next September after the hottest months have passed, in order to optimize resources.

To achieve this, professional personnel will be hired to carry out tasks with cordons of debris to slow down surface runoff and prevent soil erosion,

Additionally, clearing and recoping of dead vegetation will be carried out to create space for the reestablishment of the intended vegetation, as well as the chipping of vegetal remains and soil turning.

The activities also include the reforestation of pine and monteverde when weather conditions allow.
