SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 27th May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Attending the investigation commission on health contracts during the pandemic in the Canary Islands will be the current Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory and former Canarian President, Ángel Víctor Torres, the ex-advisor to the Ministry of Transport, Koldo García, former Minister José Luis Ábalos, and the ‘mediator’ Antonio Navarro, among others.
Commencing on 1st July, the appearances will include the first 14 individuals out of over 70 applications, as agreed upon by the Board on Monday, having considered proposals from all political groups.
The commission’s president, Raúl Acosta (AHI), informed journalists that the initial 14 appearances will mark the end of this session period.
The Board will reconvene on 5th June to address any shortcomings and amend proposed appearances and information requests from the groups, with the work plan scheduled for 7th June.
Generally, all commission sessions will be open to the public, except those requiring confidential discussions.
“The number of appearances is significantly higher than anticipated,” he highlighted while noting issues with documentation submission such as insufficient justification, relevance to the commission’s purpose, and requests for overly broad reports.
Although the aim is to conclude the commission by year-end, he acknowledged the challenge due to intense parliamentary activity and a tight schedule. He mentioned considering late sessions, preferably in the morning around 12:00, allowing the presence of two individuals simultaneously.
ALMOST 40 INDIVIDUALS FROM GOVERNMENT-SUPPORTING GROUPS
Political groups supporting the Government – CC, PP, ASG, and AHI – have collectively requested the appearance of 38 individuals, including the current Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, and former Ministry of Transport advisor, Koldo García.
Additionally, they have called for the presence of figures like Rayco González, the head of RR7 United – the company allegedly involved in a €4 million fraud with the SCS for undelivered masks; businessman Juan Manuel Pérez, the case complainant; Íñigo Rotaexte from Soluciones de Gestión y Apoyo de Empresas SL, linked to the Koldo case; former Health Ministers Julio Pérez, Blas Trujillo, and Teresa Cruz; ex-SCS directors Antonio Olivera and Conrado Domínguez, and former Treasury Minister Román Rodríguez.
The Socialist Group has requested the appearance of 12 individuals including Minister Ángel Víctor Torres, PP delegate Carlos Ester, Dr. Negrín Hospital manager Miguel Ángel Ponce, and businessman Agustín Manrique de Lara.
Vox has sought appearances from individuals tied to the RR7 ‘mask case’ and figures like Torres, Koldo García, ex-Minister of Transport José Luis Ábalos, and mediator Antonio Tacoronte.
Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-BC) has requested appearances from members of the Canarian Government’s pandemic expert committee and former SCS director Conrado Domínguez.
