SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, May 26. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The general secretary of the PSOE Canary Islands and minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, has accused the leader of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, of shirking the responsibility of not leading the Government of Spain and has already signalled him that on June 9, voters will make their choice known at the polls.

These statements were made at a campaign event held today, Sunday in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where the PSOE candidate for the European elections and third vice president and Minister of Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, MEP Juan Fernando López Aguilar, and former minister Carolina Darias, also participated.

Ángel Víctor Torres emphasized that the Popular Party, under the leadership of Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has “fallen short” during the last general elections because the public is “fed up and weary”; Hence, he confidently stated that voters will express their preference at the polls during the European elections. “This is what will happen because at PSOE we uphold integrity,” he added.

Consequently, Torres has appealed for a “substantial” voter turnout on June 9 to “demonstrate to the world” the values that the PSOE upholds, in contrast to those of conservative parties, who “resort to dishonour, defamation, slander and insult, instead of rational arguments, logic and persuasion.”

The socialist leader also cautioned that if conservative parties gain control in Europe, they will turn their backs on migrants seeking refuge from their homelands in search of a better life. “That is not the Europe that aspires to unity; that is a Europe dominated by the right and the extreme right, a situation we must combat, which is why we need to triumph on June 9,” he remarked.

Furthermore, Ángel Víctor Torres asserted that Teresa Ribera is the “ideal candidate” to secure victory in these elections and achieve a resounding success since she exemplifies that “those who strive, persevere and put up a fight will eventually succeed.”

Therefore, he implored party members to make a final push to persuade citizens to vote for the PSOE, in order to “advance towards equality, reassure women on the streets, continue to elevate the minimum wage, guarantee fair pensions, and ensure healthcare, public education, and housing blend seamlessly into the fabric of the welfare state. “Only the Socialist Party and Teresa Rivera can stand up for these ideals,” she declared.

PROGRESS OR REGRESSION.

On her part, the mayor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and former minister, Carolina Darias, expressed her strong belief that the Socialist Party will emerge victorious in the European elections, and that Teresa Ribera will assume significant responsibilities: “I have no doubts. Europe is in need of you, as are European citizens.”

Carolina Darias also underscored the critical nature of the elections on June 9, as “we are at a crossroads between moving forward or slipping backwards”, leaving “only one choice: more Europe and more Socialist Party equating to greater freedoms, increased job opportunities, and enhanced inclusivity.”
