SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 24th May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Inflammatory Bowel Disease Unit at the Canary Islands University Hospital Complex (HUC), under the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, has been honoured for producing the top study in the clinical practice results category. This recognition was received at the sixth FarmaImpulso IMID conference focusing on immune-mediated pathologies, which recently took place in Madrid.

This study highlights how monitoring the plasma levels of a medication can enhance the outcomes in managing the debilitating Crohn’s disease.

Through this study, based on observations from 36 patients, it is evident that there is a necessity to proactively monitor the plasma levels of medications used in this disease to ensure patients are optimally positioned to achieve maximum treatment effectiveness.

This serves as a prime example of applied clinical research and how collaborative efforts among gastroenterology specialists, nurses, laboratory technicians, and pharmacists can lead to enhanced patient care.

Dr. Fernando Gutiérrez, the leader of the HUC Research Unit who presented the study at the conference, highlighted that the findings analysed by Dr. Betel del Rosario, a pharmacist, are attributed to the research line initiated by Dr. Laura Ramos, a gastroenterologist at the facility, spanning over three years. He also emphasised that such achievements would not have been possible without the support and dedication of all members of the HUC Inflammatory Bowel Disease Unit.

FarmaImpulso IMID serves as a platform for updating on the latest pharmacotherapeutic advancements in immune-mediated diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease. Alongside these updates, specialists from across the nation also showcased their research endeavours on these diseases.

In the category where HUC’s study was recognised, nearly a hundred submissions were presented, underscoring the significant research contributions being made in hospitals towards fundamental and applied research.
