The Science and Technology Park of Tenerife hosted the Steam Future Fair on Thursday, where 1,400 students and 150 teachers from 40 educational centers participated, creating 68 technological prototypes that address current challenges in society. The most common fields of the projects have been robotics and programming with Arduino, electronics, the use of augmented reality, video game design, 2D and 3D animation, gamified experiences, 3D design and manufacturing, digital and audiovisual communication, among others.

The event was attended by the President of the Council, Rosa Dávila; the Minister of Innovation, Research and Development, Juan José Martínez; the Minister of Employment and Education, Efraín Medina; the Minister of Commerce and business support, Krysten Martín; the Minister of Youth and Training, Serafín Mesa; the Deputy Minister of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands, José Manuel Cabrera, and the manager of the FGULL, Julio Brito.

The Steam Future program is promoted by the Science and Technology Park of Tenerife and has the collaboration of the Steam Vocational Promotion area of the Scientific Vocations and Creativity Directorate General of Education, Inclusion and Innovation of the Education Department, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of Canary Islands.

The event has the collaboration and sponsorship of the General Foundation of the University of La Laguna, Astrophysics Institute of the Canary Islands and the CosmoLAB outreach strategy, Arquimea Research Center, Volcano Teide, Isola, Tirma, and Maker Academy.

Rosa Dávila highlighted the work carried out by all participants and “the importance of promoting vocations linked to innovation and technology from an early age, as it not only involves seeking novel solutions, which fosters creativity, but also entails values such as teamwork, discipline, and effort.” She added: “Furthermore, we support this type of events to diversify the economy, as in Tenerife we have a lot of talent in terms of innovation that we must nurture.”
