The Canarian Government to Construct 13 Secure Dwellings in Chacona

The Department of Public Works, Housing and Mobility of the Canarian Government has approved the project for the construction of 13 publicly promoted protected homes in Los Pasitos, in the Chacona area, through the Canarian Housing Institute (Icavi). The councilor of the area, Pablo Rodríguez, highlighted the importance of this initiative, stating that “we are committed to providing access to housing for the Canarian population through the construction of secure and affordable homes, which enhance their quality of life and contribute to the sustainable development of our islands.”

The project, which has a base bidding budget of 2,828,544 Euros, includes not only the construction of the dwellings but also subcontracting of electrical installations, fire prevention systems, thermal installations, and plumbing, sanitation, and telecommunications infrastructures.

This construction, which is scheduled to be completed within 24 months, is part of the Canarian Housing Plan 2020-2025, outlining various programs that contribute to the creation of housing environments that promote territorial cohesion and social inclusion, as reported by the regional government.

The construction of these homes reflects the ongoing commitment of the Canarian Government to improving residential infrastructure in the islands, strengthening the housing policy that aims to ensure accessibility, sustainability, and quality for all its citizens.

Both the mayor, Gustavo Pérez, and the councilor of Social Services, José Miguel Hernández, expressed their satisfaction with this announcement and recalled that “this action has been in progress since the previous term, although we see it reflected now. We hope that the work will be carried out as soon as possible so that families can enjoy their new homes.”

The local authorities of Güímar explained that the City Council continues to work on new initiatives for the provision of social housing. “The first is to apply for the grant from the Council to purchase and complete housing developments; the second is to make more urban land available to Visocan and Icavi for the construction of social housing; and a third, innovative option that we have started with other administrations, is the individualized purchase of homes to make them available for social rental purposes.”

Pérez and Hernández noted that “it has been many years since Güímar had the opportunity for social housing, and we are set to become one of the leading municipalities.”
