SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, May 23. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Deputy Minister of Economy and Internationalization of the Government of the Canary Islands and Vice President of Proexca, Gustavo González de Vega, along with the Executive CEO of Proexca, Pablo Martín Carbajal, have showcased the opportunities available in the Canary Islands for the audiovisual industry during a two-day event in Montreal and Toronto, in collaboration with the Canary Islands Audiovisual Cluster.

Approximately 30 professionals in Montreal and around 50 professionals in Toronto participated in the meetings, which were attended by the Spanish ambassador to Canada, Alfredo Martínez Serrano, who welcomed the delegation from the Canary Islands and actively engaged in discussions, highlighting the region’s role as a leading destination within the country.

“We have identified significant potential in the two presentations we delivered, as well as opportunities for collaboration between the Canadian audiovisual sector and the Canary Islands ecosystem, not only in terms of productions in the Canary Islands by Canadian companies, but also in terms of co-productions,” stated González de Vega. “During the discussions, we received numerous inquiries from companies familiar with the Canary Islands who are contemplating our destination. It is imperative that we capitalize on this opportunity,” she added.

Martín Carbajal expressed the mutual interest in hosting a reverse trade mission as the next step, where Canadian companies keen on the Canary Islands can visit to gain firsthand insight into the industry ecosystem. “We have encountered around 50 Canadian companies that have displayed considerable interest in the Canary Islands, and moving forward, we will be maintaining communication with them to provide any necessary support. We aspire to arrange a business mission for Canadian companies to the Canary Islands, as we have recognised the depth of interest that exists, and we will commence working on this initiative starting tomorrow, building on the outcomes of this visit,” he explained.

This initiative reinforces the Canary Islands Government’s strategy to diversify the economic landscape of the archipelago by focusing on burgeoning sectors experiencing growth and development, which contribute to sustainable job creation across the islands.
