SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 22nd May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Carlos Tarife, the Public Services Representative of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council from the People’s Party (PP), will launch a campaign in the Añaza neighbourhood starting next Tuesday. He will be overseeing, comfortably seated in a chair, to ensure that residents are using the waste bins correctly.

“My goal is to have a city that is clean. It is unacceptable to see garbage being dumped in 28 different locations across the city. I am initiating an awareness campaign and seeking collaboration from the locals to collectively enhance our neighbourhoods. I am relying on your support,” he expressed on his social media account.

The council has identified that in 28 streets within the municipality, waste is being disposed of outside the designated bins, particularly in the southwest and Ofra-Costa Sur districts. Incidents have also been observed in Anaga, Centro-Ifara and La Salle.

The councilor, who has named this endeavour as the ‘chair campaign’, will be stationed in the waste collection areas during the afternoons to engage with residents and educate them on the importance of not littering the city or dumping waste on pavements or public gardens.

Amendments have been made to the municipal regulations by the City Council, with initial fines already being issued. The latest fine of €2,000 was imposed on an employee of a restaurant in the city centre for discarding four bags of cardboard outside the designated container for such waste, and also for doing so outside of the designated timeframe.
