This upcoming Friday, the 24th of May, Plaza de la Candelaria in Santa Cruz will be hosting a music event tailored for the younger audience as part of the May Festival. Organised by the Department of Education of the Santa Cruz City Council, in collaboration with the Autonomous Organization of Festivals and Recreational Activities (Oafar), and the Government of the Canary Islands, the first edition of the Mayo Joven Festival aims to create a space where young people can enjoy a diverse range of music genres in a safe environment, offering a healthy and cultural leisure alternative.
Starting at 8:00 p.m., Mayo Joven will kick off with a performance by the trending artist, Tayson Kryss, the mind behind the globally popular song “Looking for cash”. This track has become a worldwide phenomenon through the TikTok platform, boasting over a million videos and setting a record with more than 100 million plays on various music platforms. This Cuban artist’s performance will be an exclusive one in Tenerife as part of his European tour.
Joining Tayson Kryss will be the Canary Islands’ very own singer, Cristián Rodríguez (Xriz), who will be presenting his latest musical project. This concert marks his only performance in the archipelago after years of absence. With successful collaborations with artists like Juan Magán, Dasoul, or Saiko, Xriz has accumulated around 200 million views on digital platforms. Now, he is taking a new step in his musical career with fresh work.
In addition to the main acts, the renowned DJs Renzzo El Selector and Fabrizio Salgado will keep the music flowing between live performances, ensuring a festive atmosphere throughout Mayo Joven. The festival, which offers free entry, will also host various activities aimed at promoting programmes such as the Young District.
