SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 20th May (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Department of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity, and Sports of the Canary Islands’ Government has initiated a tender process for the concession and operation of cafeterias in twenty secondary education facilities across the archipelago, with an estimated value of €6,466,220.

The procurement will be conducted through an open tender procedure, divided into 20 lots, with lots 4, 7, 9, and 10 being specifically reserved for companies promoting social inclusion and special employment initiatives.

The deadline for submitting bids on the Public Sector Contracting Platform is set at 3:00 p.m. on 12th June, with a contract duration of three years.

The Ministry of Education has emphasised social and educational priorities in this service concession. To be specific, contracts are being tendered for the management and operation of secondary school cafeterias in Gran Canaria including institutes such as Arguineguín, Doramas, Arucas-Domingo Rivero, Cairasco de Figueroa, Feria del Atlántico, and Faro de Maspalomas. In Tenerife, the Bethencourt and Molina Compulsory Education Centre (CEO) along with secondary schools Lucas Martin Espino, Las Veredillas, and Agustín de Bethencourt are included.

La Palma will see tenders for the Virgen de las Nieves Integrated Vocational Training Centre (CIFP), alongside Luis Cobiella Cuevas, Eusebio Barreto Lorenzo, and Candido Marante Exposito IES. Furthermore, the IES San Sebastian in La Gomera, Garoé in El Hierro, César Manrique in Lanzarote, and Corralejo in Fuerteventura are also part of the tender.

The cafeteria services are considered a complementary service to the educational public service. The selected companies will be responsible for premises, facility, and equipment maintenance, as well as provisioning and staff recruitment required to operate.

Teachers, students, parents, educational service professionals, and visitors will benefit from these services.

An essential criteria for awarding the contracts is the incorporation of organic and environmentally friendly products, exhibiting positive social impact. This aligns with the recommendations of Health and Education ministries with respect to encouraging healthy dietary habits.

In addition, the department overseen by Poli Suárez actively supports job security in contract execution, keeping in line with the 2030 Agenda to eradicate employment uncertainty in the Canary Islands.
