SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 20th May (EUROPA PRESS) –

Today, the Canary Islands Parliament inaugurated the ‘Ilustradoras & Ilustradas 4’ exhibition, featuring 105 artworks showcasing a diverse range of artistic styles created by over a hundred illustrators from the islands.

This marks the fourth edition of the project organized by the Cine+Cómics Foundation, residing in the Chamber’s exhibition hall for the past four years, serving as a platform for over 500 local artists.

The opening ceremony was led by Gustavo Matos, the second vice president of the Parliament, who highlighted that through this exhibition, the Parliament fulfils its mandate as a space for dialogue and welcomes anyone willing to contribute to citizen engagement.

“The portrayal of women in art, evident in each painting of this exhibition, highlights their significance in a historically male-dominated sector, reflecting the ongoing women’s empowerment in this era,” added Matos.

Similar to previous editions, the exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue showcasing all displayed artworks.

Lucas Morales, the director of the Cine+Cómics Foundation, emphasised the aim of the exhibition to bring visibility to the works of Canary Island artists, uniting the creations of five hundred artists residing on the islands across its four editions.

Rafael Yanes, the outgoing Common Deputy, mentioned that ‘Ilustradoras & Ilustradas’ originated in 2021 with the support of the Common Council, stating, “It couldn’t be a more fitting farewell to my tenure as Ombudsman, as this initiative underscores the Council’s commitment to promoting women’s roles in society.”

The opening ceremony attracted a large audience, including many participating artists, as well as the incoming Common Deputy, Dolores Padrón; deputies Rebeca Paniagua, Yaiza López, and Nira Fierro; deputies Raúl Acosta and Yonathan Martín; the president of the Cine+Cómics Foundation, Francisco Pomares, and the exhibition’s curator, Camila Pomares.

The exhibition will remain open for public viewing until 8th June, from Monday to Friday between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with limited Saturday morning hours from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
