The main street of the urban area of La Esperanza (El Rosario), Calvario Street, is nearing the completion of its renovation works. After over a year of work, the street is currently in the asphalt phase. This is the second to last step before the finalization of the project, with only the road marking and installation of new urban furniture remaining.

The mayor of El Rosario, Escolástico Gil, explains that the milling and subsequent paving works started at the junction of Calvario Street with the Town Hall square to facilitate the parade last Friday on the occasion of the 180th anniversary of the establishment of the Guardia Civil, an event the municipality hosted for the first time.

The leader of Initiative for El Rosario-Greens (IR-Greens) stated that after this initial asphalt phase, the work will continue downwards until reaching the junction with El Cascajal Street. The ultimate goal is to completely renew the street over its approximately 650 meters, from the intersection with El Cascajal Street to the junctions with Pedro Juan García Hernández Street and the Town Hall square.

Efforts have been made to enhance pedestrian routes by “giving them priority, organizing parking spaces so they do not create physical barriers, and facilitating pedestrian mobility, especially for those with reduced mobility”. In addition to the general beautification of this central street, the renovation of the water supply network and its provision of fire hydrants and irrigation outlets, the implementation of new low-voltage and telecommunications channels for the underground installation of said networks, and the reorganization and improvement of public lighting are included.

One of the main actions involves the comprehensive renewal of the water supply network on this street, “designed in such a way that it allows the network to be divided into four independent zones without interrupting the service along the entire street”.

Regarding the installation of furnishings, accessible furniture such as bins, conditioning of bus stops with shelters, and planters located in specific areas where there is sufficient available space without obstructing pathways are planned.

According to the information provided by the Town Hall, the project has prioritized improvements in terms of accessibility, with the inclusion of tactile guide pavements on sidewalks and pedestrian routes, while also addressing the parking needs in the city centre of La Esperanza.
