Fasnia Rallies for a Permanent Ambulance Service

Enthusiastic support is growing in Fasnia for a campaign demanding a consistent ambulance presence in the municipality. Local resident Vanessa Cabrera, aged 43 and a mother to a 3-year-old child, has taken the initiative to gather signatures for this cause. She describes the current health situation as “third world” and stresses the urgent need for a permanent ambulance service. This demand has received full backing from the city council under the leadership of Luis Javier González.

Vanessa highlights the challenges faced by her son and another neighbour, Tatiana González, who both suffer from severe food allergies requiring adrenaline injections in case of emergency. The absence of a readily available ambulance poses a significant risk, as immediate hospital transfer is vital in such critical situations.

Sharing a personal experience, Vanessa recalls a distressing incident when she had to rush her son to the hospital in her car due to anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction. The absence of prompt ambulance services in such emergencies is a matter of grave concern for residents.

The urgent need for a permanent ambulance service is further underscored by instances where timely medical assistance can make a life-saving difference. Vanessa points out the considerable distance of 37 kilometers to the nearest hospital and the limited public transport options available in the municipality.

The petition for a consistent ambulance presence emphasises the vulnerability of the elderly population in Fasnia and the challenges faced by families with children. The inadequacy of healthcare facilities during key periods, such as weekends when extracurricular activities are in full swing, raises serious concerns.

In response to these pressing issues, residents advocating for the petition propose establishing a permanent ambulance base in strategic locations like Las Eras or Los Roques. These sites are deemed critical due to their proximity to major routes, ensuring quicker emergency responses for residents in surrounding areas.

Fasnia Mayor, Luis Javier González, has wholeheartedly endorsed the initiative, reaffirming his commitment to address the community’s needs. Plans are already set in motion to incorporate a new ambulance unit in the upcoming medical transportation contract. The proposed ambulance base in Los Roques or Las Eras is seen as a critical step towards enhancing emergency healthcare services not just for Fasnia but for the entire region.
