SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 17th May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Council of Tenerife, under the Primary Sector division, has initiated the installation of floating solar panels in the ponds of the public company, Balten, with a budget of 431,353.26 euros.
The sector consultant, Valentín González, details in a statement that “this marks the inception of a groundbreaking project in the Canary Islands, aimed at progressing towards the decarbonisation of this public entity by utilising renewable energies, all in the pursuit of applying sustainable principles to our endeavours in this sector.”
The initial floating panels, situated on trimarans at water level, were positioned this week in the Santa Antonio pond, within the municipality of La Matanza, where four research lines will be launched to explore energy effectiveness in its operation.
Internally, assessments will be conducted in the realms of energy and finance to ascertain the aggregate and individual output of the generators, alongside monitoring pumping consumption behaviour and incidence angle efficiency.
On the environmental front, oversight will be maintained over the environmental impact of the installation on the water body, whilst meteorologically, there will be monitoring of incident solar resource parameters, social radiation, module temperatures, relative humidity, and wind conditions.
With regards to the structures, checks will be carried out on plant dynamics and tensioner stress levels, among other factors.
Valentín González underlines that “this signifies the initiation of the first floating solar plant on rafts in the Canary Islands”, furthering that “the initiatives and progression of this scheme will act as a testing ground for such technologies across the islands.”
