Dávila calls for the purchase of La Tejita hotel plot with the remaining municipal funds

Rosa Dávila, the president of the Tenerife Island Council, emphasized that the Granadilla de Abona City Council has sufficient funds to “address” the purchase of the plot where the La Tejita hotel is being built. Specifically, she referred to the €71,835,451.92 surplus in the treasury, as stated in the closure of the municipal budget for the 2023 fiscal year.

After reiterating that in the island Corporation “we would allocate the resources that we believe we can allocate (did not specify the amount),” Dávila once again pointed to the Granadilla municipal Corporation as the administration that must take steps to prevent the completion of the La Tejita hotel construction.

To do this, she indicated that the City Council must review its planning to remove the tourist designation currently held by the 52,987 square meters of land where the hotel construction continues. Additionally, she explained that the municipal government must negotiate with the property for the land buyout. “The Island Council is fully cooperating to expand the protection of this area and re-naturalize” a space where “there are two or three floors already built,” she specified.

The price of the plot was appraised at €25.6 million at the end of the previous term, in the context of discussions held between the Canary Islands Government and the owning company, which confirmed it. The regional Government denies the existence of any file or budget allocation for this, contradicting both the construction company and the Granadilla Mayor, Jennifer Miranda. Last week, the Canary Islands Parliament rejected the proposal by the Socialist Party to finalize this alleged process and, therefore, the purchase of the mentioned plot.

Miranda’s absence from a meeting held on the 3rd, convened by the Canarian President, Fernando Clavijo, continues to generate controversy. The mayor has argued that the construction has a valid permit with the necessary approvals from both the Council and the regional Government.
