Santa Cruz de Tenerife will kick off the summer season with a range of sports courses, including a skateboarding beginners’ session at La Granja park, and an inclusive camp to be held in Las Delicias, Ofra-Costa Cruz district. These new courses will complement the existing swimming lessons at Acidalio Lorenzo Pool, a surfing initiation course in Taganana, and the Multisport Campus on Las Teresitas beach.

Registration for these activities opens this Wednesday, 15th of May and is available for children aged between 4 and 17 years.

To register, individuals can visit the Quico Cabrera Pavilion in person (from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.), or utilize the website www.santacruzentrena.es.

For additional information, interested parties can visit the mentioned website, contact 609 742 213, or email [email protected].

The mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, emphasizes that “the City Council is dedicated to promoting outdoor sports, encouraging physical activity in natural surroundings, and providing the necessary facilities for individuals to engage in such activities.” In a similar tone, Sports Councilor Alicia Cebrián states, “we are excited to introduce these courses to diversify sporting activities and offer a wide range of options for sports enthusiasts. Our aim is to provide modern and updated sports experiences in Santa Cruz.”

Notable additions this year include an inclusive camp and a skate training course. Regarding the inclusive camp, the councilor remarks, “this initiative aims to promote inclusion and equality by providing individuals with functional diversity the opportunity to participate in and enjoy a unique experience. The camp is focused on skill development through sports, recreation, play, and interaction with peers of similar age.”

Discussing the skateboarding course, she notes, “skateboarding is a widely popular sport, even making its debut in the Olympics. With numerous young practitioners in Santa Cruz, we have decided to launch this course for the first time this year.”

A new addition this year is the inclusive camp, scheduled to run at the Las Delicias sports complex from July 29 to August 9, on a weekly basis from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The camp is open to minors aged between 6 and 17 years with at least a 33% disability, supported by appropriate certification, and must exhibit social autonomy (ability to express needs). The fee for this camp is 56.75 euros per week.

For the introductory skateboarding course at La Granja park, taking place between July 1 and August 2, weekly sessions will run for one hour, starting at 10:00 to 11:00 or 11:00 to 12:00. This course targets youngsters aged between 6 and 17 years. The registration fee is 11.04 euros per week, with available discounts. Participants are required to bring their skateboard and protective gear (helmet, knee pads, and elbow pads) to join.

Swimming Courses

The traditional swimming sessions will be held at the Acidalio Lorenzo Municipal Pool in July and August for children aged 4 to 13. Two shifts are offered: morning sessions from 9:30 a.m. to 13:40 p.m., and afternoon sessions from 16:00 to 7:20 p.m.

For onsite registration at the Quico Cabrera Pavilion, visitors must collect their numbers from the facility starting at 8:00 a.m. on the 15th. The registration fee is 28 euros for one month and 54 euros for two months.

The City Council Sports Councilor informs of discounts available for disabilities, large families, official reception centers for minors, and vulnerable families, where places are free of charge.

Regarding the swimming courses, Cebrián highlights the importance of swimming skills, especially living on an island surrounded by water and as a coastal municipality with an extensive coastline offering various water-related activities and leisure possibilities.

Similarly, the surfing initiation course will be conducted at Taganana, Roque de Las Bodegas beach, or Almáciga between July 1 and August 30, with two hours per day on a weekly schedule for minors aged 9 to 17. The general fee for this course is 46 euros per week, with available discounts.

Cebrián mentions, “Santa Cruz boasts vast natural spaces that are underutilized, particularly the coastline. With the recent closure of CIDEMAT, citizens have been deprived of enjoying the sea.” She further adds, “The Sports Service aims to rectify this and provide opportunities for sea sports. This year, our focus is on introducing surfing to young participants, a sport that is not only beautiful and enjoyable but also offers complete physical exertion.”

Multisport Campus at Las Teresitas

Another offering this year is the Multisport Campus at Las Teresitas beach, located near the Red Cross, running between June 24 and August 30 on a weekly basis from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This camp is open to children aged 6 to 13, with a fee of 73.50 euros per week, inclusive of available discounts.

This campus provides a variety of activities on the beach, including beach volleyball, beach tennis, water polo, and alternative games both in the water and on the sands.
