SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 15 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Board of the Canary Islands Parliament, headed by its president, Gustavo Matos, traveled to La Palma this Monday to develop, until tomorrow Tuesday, a broad agenda of meetings with representatives of the institutions, groups of people affected by the eruption that began almost two months and specialists who are working on the monitoring of the volcanological crisis. Speaking to the media, Matos assured that Parliament “will do everything in its power to achieve the maximum possible reparation.”

The president pointed out that the Chamber “today symbolically moves to La Palma to express its affection and affection here, from the idea that what happens on one island happens on all”. He indicated that parliamentary activity “has adapted almost from the first moment to this crisis” and showed the special “affection and affection” of the institution “to those who have lost everything, to those who look to the future with the hope that when the volcano ends let’s not forget this island, because La Palma is not alone “.

Matos called for unity “in the face of this natural phenomenon that has done irreparable damage.” He explained that Parliament “will do its job to make the reconstruction task effective and fast, adjusting as much as possible to the needs of those who have lost everything.” At this point, he expressed that a house “is not just a property, it is a family history, they are experiences.” The president transferred the recognition of the Chamber “to the mayors and mayoress, for their enormous day-to-day work” in this crisis.

The work plan began in Tajuya with a meeting with the mayor of El Paso and regional deputy, Sergio Rodríguez, and the mayor of Los Llanos de Aridane, Noelia García, with whom they were able to talk about the emergency situation. Rodríguez stressed that the Parliament Board has been “in direct contact from minute one to learn about the situation” of La Palma and appreciated “that support, being able to feel the warmth of all the Canaries.” The mayor stressed that situations like this are, on the other hand, “an opportunity to show that administrations serve much more than they normally do.”

For her part, Noelia García thanked the Board for “the support and affection.” He recalled that his municipality “concentrates more than 70 percent of the impact of the volcano” and remarked that this circumstance “should be well reflected when Parliament streamlines the procedures with legislative initiatives that make life easier for citizens and serve to rebuild Los Llanos de Aridane “.

INTENSE WORK

Accompanied by the mayor and the mayoress, the members of the Board visited the La Palma headquarters of the National Geographic Institute (IGN), where they held a meeting with its director, María José Blanco, who showed them the volcanic risk indicators. With the members of the team, the Board of the Chamber was able to comment on the evolution of the volcano.

They then went to the Forward Command Post and visited the Cecopin communications room and the drone flight control room. At the PMA they were able to see first-hand the coordinated work being carried out by the UME, the National Police, the Civil Guard, the Canarian Police and the Local Police. Another of the spaces they visited was the logistics center where donations are collected, a space of more than 2,000 square meters.

At the Massieu de Argual house, where the office for victims is located, the members of the Board met with two representatives of those affected by the eruption, firstly with the Cumbre Vieja Neighborhood Association and then with the Platform Association of Affected by the Cumbre Vieja Volcano 2021.

The priorities in terms of land, the needs in terms of housing or the importance for them that the public administrations “transmit hope so that people want to continue living on La Palma” were some of the questions raised by these people. After emphasizing these groups that political unity must be maintained so that the emergency legislation that is brought to Parliament is approved as soon as possible, Gustavo Matos invited both associations to go to the Chamber to expose their problems.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, a formal meeting of the Board will be held at the Salazar Palace in Santa Cruz de La Palma after the scheduled meeting with the president of the Cabildo, Mariano Hernández, and the vice president, Borja Perdomo.

The Board of Parliament is made up of the president, Gustavo Matos, the first and second vice presidents, Esther González and Rosa Dávila, the first secretary, Jorge González, and the second secretary, Luz Reverón.
